The Life of a Lie

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 (NKJV)  9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

I do not fear for the future of the Presbyterian Church (USA). I mostly feel satisfied with its prospect of a certain, poetic, Divine retribution. Those currently orchestrating their own judgment will never see it coming until it is too late. Like all who are bound and determined to accept reprobation in return for human autonomy, they will gleefully travel a path to ruin.

Satan is the Father of Lies and sustainer of liars. Those who follow him will live in every subtle form of deception. They deceive, they are deceived by others, and they deceive themselves. They become what is it their nature to become – liars. They live in the dim shadows of falsehood, because they hate the light, lest their sins be exposed.

Since the Word of God is a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. Those who are perishing despise it and fear its content. The worst of them try to domesticate the truth by turning it into their own subjective plaything. This is why they distort its simple truth by constructing convoluted logic from its passages. Consider who the PC(USA) justifies the death of preborn human creations. Here is their argument. “God has given us dominion over all creation. A woman’s body is part of that creation. Therefore a woman has dominion over what develops in her own body. She therefore acts responsibly when she exercises her God given stewardship over her pregnancy. She may nurture the child within her or burn it to death with salt water. She may wait for her perfectly healthy child to fully gestate then kill it with a knife as its head crowns her body. Each is an acceptable act of her freedom.” Notice how a truth of stewardship is transformed into a damnable lie.

The supreme court of the Presbyterian Church (USA) has taken this same brimstone paved path of reasoning in their decision concerning the nature of marriage. In one ruling they said that marriage is between a man and a woman, hence homosexuals cannot enter into a marriage. So, a service that celebrates the union of two men or two women, though it resembles a marriage cannot in fact be one. Therefore such celebrations are in order. All children of the Light will see through this subterfuge, all children of the Dark One will not. (The current twisted reasoning has abandoned this moderate view and moved toward considering marriage as something between "two persons.")

Consider the most recent decision on homosexual ordination. It was a test case for the recent change in the Book of Order that (1) placed the decision into the unilateral judgment of each presbytery, and (2) set its yardstick on the candidate’s general qualities rather than any set of specific moral actions.  A candidate could practice lying, but if his talents and overall morality is deemed sound, then the liar is fully approved to preach and pastor. If a person, otherwise qualified, practiced homosexuality that person could be fully approved to preach and be a pastor to God’s people.

That PJC decision stated that “Substantial evidence was presented to the Synod PJC about scriptural and confessional interpretations concerning sexual behavior.” They called professors from several seminaries who disagreed on the biblical teaching concerning homosexuality. The General Assembly’s Permanent Judicial Commission actually reasoned that the biblical truth concerning sexual morality is unknowable because scholars hold contradictory views.
