Have you ever noticed someone on television who at first delighted you, but, after their tenth appearance you said of them, "Enough already"?
I am being to feel like that guy. Its like the little four year old boy, Bobby, I once observed. Little Bobby came into the room and announced quite innocently - "Mommy farted." It broke the room up. We laughed so hard we cried. We almost didn't notice that Bobby kept saying it. "Mommy farted, Mommy farted, Mommy farted." The laughter turned to mild amusement mixed with well reasoned parental concern. Most of us knew that this precocious little boy was about to learn a painful life-lesson.
Peggy, Bobby's mother, finally picked him up and calmly removed him from the room. We could hear how she first tried to distracted him with other games or activities. Bobby was not wise but neither was he stupid. Children are just as intelligent as adults. He knew that he had just been socially dismissed. What he didn't understand was why he was so abruptly managed. What had he done to bring on this harsh treatment. He had just spoken the truth. Fact is, Mommy did fart and he heard it plainly.
All mammals fart. All human's are mammals, so all human fart. Every person is that room was human, so they all fart. Had Peggy's husband announced that his wife farted, it would not have been funny. Had Bobby been her sixteen year old son, it would not have been funny. The only way that declaration is amusing is when it is declared by someone without guile. An innocent child.
I have been expressing my feelings and thoughts about an issue facing my Church family. Like Bobby I have expressed my observation with a candor devoid of nuance. I am beginning to feel like little Bobby. Enough for now. I'll let other's have the floor for awhile.
